I have to admit that I have a sweet spot for veterinarians and people who work with animals so when I found out that I was going to get to photograph another vet-related bride’s wedding, I was super excited. In part, because her love of all creatures big and small (OR PREHISTORIC) turned into choosing the Florida Museum of Natural History for their wedding reception, which I was THRILLED about because it meant I would finally have the perfect couple for a really an epic image that I had wanted to take in the museum (see below for the final shot)!

Dez and Adam started their wedding day across the street from their ceremony and reception at the Hilton University Conference Center. They relatively recently redid the entire decor of the hotel and it now has some really beautiful places to not only get ready with bridal parties but also for photos. I was a little obsessed with the round mirrors in the suites.

From there, it was off to Lake Alice for a First Look and then photos with their bridal party. Since Dez works a lot with reptiles at her job, we were all hoping so hard that a gator would show up in the background of one of our images. If you are familiar with Lake Alice at all, it’s pretty common to see a gator or two but of course, of all days, none decided to show up for us. (That’s ok, the bats in the bat house across the street came out at dusk, just as everyone was heading the reception, and bats are just as cool!)

Dez and Adam held their wedding ceremony at the beautiful Baughman Center, which overlooks Lake Alice on campus and so always has lovely views from all the windows inside the building. Plus we had perfect weather for fitting in family formal portraits right outside by the water, once the ceremony was done. Still no gators in the background but the setting sun did give us some great pinks and oranges across the lake.

After portraits it was time to head to the Florida Museum to get the real party started! The museum is such a cool place for a reception because, although no food or drink are allowed passed the designated areas, wedding guests are allowed to visit the permanent exhibits throughout the reception. If you’re a photographer, and a bit of a nerd, ie me, taking photos of the wedding couple in the museum is like a kid in a candy shop…sooooo much fun!

Dez and Adam, congratulations again on such an awesome wedding and thank you for having me as a part of it!
